The rear axle of the Landcruiser 200 and 300 series shifts sideways when lifted. This sideways shift, referred to as the "track" of the vehicle is often encountered at standard height vehicles also.
The track offset causes the rear wheels to travel off-centre in relation to the front wheels. Track offset can be identified by measuring from the inside edge of the rim to the chassis each side and by sight from the rear of the vehicle.
Adjustable panhard rods (or track bars) provide the flexibility to centres the rear axle to ensure that the front and rear wheels are travelling in line at ride height.
Track correction improves vehicle handling and stability on and offroad, commonly refrerred to as crab-walking.
